A Marian Canticle
Text
(from The Order for Evening Prayer,
The Book of Common Prayer, 1662)
I. “My soul doth magnify”(Solo Soprano, Solo Bass, SATB Chorus, Orchestra)
My soul doth magnify the Lord: and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior.
II. “For he hath regarded” (Solo Soprano, SATB Chorus, Orchestra)
For he hath regarded: the lowliness of his hand-maiden.
For, behold, from henceforth: all generations shall call me blessed.
III. “For he that is mighty” (Solo Soprano, Solo Bass, SATB Chorus, Orchestra)
For he that is mighty hath magnified me: and holy is his name.
IV. “And his mercy”(Solo Bass, SATB Chorus, Orchestra)
And his mercy is on them that fear him: throughout all generations.
V. “He hath showed strength” (Solo Soprano, SATB Chorus, Orchestra)
He hath showed strength with his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
VI. “He hath put down” (Solo Bass, SATB Chorus, Orchestra)
He hath put down the mighty from their seat: and hath exalted the humble and meek.
VII. “He hath filled the hungry” (Solo Soprano, Solo Bass, SATB Chorus, Orchestra)
He hath filled the hungry with good things: and the rich he hath sent empty away.
VIII. “He remembering” (Solo Soprano, SATB Chorus, Orchestra)
He remembering of his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel: as he promised to our forefathers,
Abraham, and his seed, forever.
IX. “Glory be to the Father” (Solo Soprano, Solo Bass, SATB Chorus, Orchestra)
Glory be to the Father and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.
